Description

A fine cased WWII German Award, instituted on May 1, 1938, to commemorate the annexation of Austria to the German Reich, the Anschluss.

It was awarded to all those Austrians who contributed to or participated in the annexation and members of the German armed forces who marched into Austria.

It was awarded until December 13, 1940. In all 318,689 medals were awarded.

The original design was to receive the portrait of Adolf Hitler with the text “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FUHRER” on the front side and the German Eagle with Swastika on the obverse with the text “13 MARZ” above and “19 38” besides the eagle.
The final design features two men with flag, standing on the eagle with swastica. On the reverse was the text “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FUHRER” and the date “13 MARZ 1938”.

The medal is in very good condition and is complete with the original ribbon and pin. The red leather case of issue is original and complete. Constructed of heavy card stock with a red faux leather (leatherette) exterior with a golden national eagle embossed on the outside of the lid.
