Description
A genuine piece of World War Two history, this is an original German MG34 general-purpose machine gun recovered from the Normandy battlefields of France — one of the most significant and storied theatres of the entire conflict.
As a ground-dug relic, this example presents in the honest, aged condition you would expect from a battlefield recovery, and does not require a deactivation certificate, making it straightforward to own as a legal relic. It has clearly spent decades in the soil of Normandy, giving it an authentic patina and presence that no reproduction could replicate.
The overall metal framework is solid and structurally sound. The front section of the barrel shroud has become detached but is easily restorable — a straightforward weld would return it to its original form. The butt stock woodwork is absent, though the internal metal stock component remains in place. The left-hand bakelite grip panel is missing, while the right-hand panel survives. The bipod is also absent. These losses are entirely typical for a battlefield ground find of this age, and the gun retains tremendous presence and display appeal. It is a substantial, honest relic rather than a cleaned-up or restored example, and is offered exactly as recovered.
The MG34 was a revolutionary weapon in its day, serving as the backbone of German infantry firepower throughout the war. Examples recovered directly from the Normandy campaign carry an enormous amount of history, and this one would make a centrepiece addition to any serious WW2 collection.
A rare and collectable piece of genuine battlefield history.
