Description
This Argentine FN FAL Type A bayonet was captured during the Falklands War in 1982 and later brought back to the UK by a member of 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment (3 PARA). Following the Argentine surrender on 14 June 1982, large quantities of small arms and equipment were collected at Port Stanley and other locations across the islands. While the rifles were generally confiscated by the British authorities, bayonets were often retained by soldiers as personal souvenirs, making surviving examples with known wartime provenance particularly interesting pieces of Falklands War history.
The bayonet is of tubular steel one-piece construction with flash ports and a spear-point blade of semicircular profile. The blade measures approximately 16.5 cm (6½ inches), with an overall length of around 28.9 cm (11⅜ inches).
It is complete with its black plastic scabbard featuring steel throat piece and eyelet chape, together with a green canvas frog fitted with retaining strap, plastic belt grip and wire hanger.
Condition is good overall. The bayonet retains much of its original blued finish, with minor rubbing to the high points and light wear to the black-painted release catch. The blade shows some light age-related patina and minor marks from use and sheathing but remains sound. The scabbard shows light handling marks, while the canvas frog displays some wear consistent with age and service.
The sale of knives, edged weapons and firearms is restricted to persons aged 18 or over. Age verification is required prior to purchase.
