The 3 inch Mortar was the standard mortar used by the British Army in WWII. It was introduced in the early 1930’s after superseding the Stokes mortar and remained in use until the late 1960’s when it was replaced by the L16 81mm mortar.
This is a scarce 3 inch training shell an is in excellent condition. Fully ordnance stamped with a clear April 1941 date. The paint is all original and in excellent condition. It still has the painted instruction “3 In Mortar Practice sand”. It is still complete with it’s sand filling to simulate the weight of a functional round. A rare item
