Description
Rare Original Late-War WWII German MG42 Anti-Aircraft “Spider” Sight
Authentic late-war simplified variant – WaA37 Waffenamt stamped
An extremely rare and original example of the late-war German anti-aircraft “spider” sight designed for use with the MG42 machine gun. These sights were mounted for engaging low-flying aircraft and are among the most sought-after accessories for German MG collectors.
This version represents the simplified late-war pattern, produced under increased wartime pressure to conserve materials and streamline manufacturing. It consists of:
- only one inner concentric metal ring,
- A central vertical and horizontal crossbar forming the crosshairs,
- And four diagonally angled retaining struts running through the outer ring, reinforcing the structure.
The base of the sight is clearly marked with Waffenamt WaA37 and a number “5”, indicating wartime manufacture and acceptance.
The sight is in very good overall condition, with only minor surface oxidation consistent with age and storage. Structurally sound and entirely unmodified, this is a genuine piece of late-war German military equipment, with Pot-war reproductions, typically lacking incorrect construction techniques.
Original wartime MG42 spider sights—especially the simplified late-war variant—are exceptionally scarce on the market, with most examples encountered today being post-war or reproduction pieces. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a verified original, ideal for serious collectors or advanced restoration projects.
